Chatham Docks
K2 is providing project and cost management to Peel Ports at Chatham Docks as well as construction management services. In particular we are managing the replacement of the caissons at the entrance to the harbour
Initially K2 provided strategic advice on the options to maintain access into Chatham docks via the caissons serving the North & South Locks. The locks and caissons were constructed in the 1880’s and have been well maintained ever since. The four caissons, that weigh approximately 40 tonnes each date back to the 1960’s. The skid and keel of the caissons have since deteriorated and a major refurbishment is now required in order to maintain the functioning of the docks.
Under a construction management arrangement K2 have procured all of the design and technical consultants as well as the specialist contractors who will lift, transport and refurbish each of the massive lock gates.
