MP MARKS VILLAGE PROJECTS MILESTONE
(Tottenham, Wood Green and Edmonton Journal) 1st July 2010
A FINAL section of concrete was laid by Tottenham MP David Lammy to complete the latest stage of the Hale Village development.
The £400million regeneration project off Ferry Lane, Tottenham Hale, hosted a topping out ceremony on the roof of the Newlon Housing Trust's landmark project. The building will offer 154 new affordable homes on a part-buy, part-rent basis, and new headquarters for the Newlon Group.
In all, the development will be made up of 542 new affordable homes, built in four distinct areas, offering homes for key workers, first time buyers and rented social housing for families.
Mr Lammy said "In these tough economic times I am delighted to see the fruition of this exciting vision.
Developments that create jobs and improve the housing stock are essential to the much deserved regeneration of this area".
THE FIRST BUILDING AT HALE VILLAGE IS OPENED BY
THE MAYOR OF LONDON'S HOUSING ADVISOR, RICHARD BLAKEWAY
10th november 2009
The £400m mix use development at Hale Village was visited by Mayoral Housing Advisor Richard Blakeway on Tuesday 10 November. He officially opened Emily Bowes Court, a new home to 687 students at Hale Village.
Emily Bowes Court, the first building completed at Hale Village in north London was developed by UNITE, the UK's leading provider of student accommodation.
Richard Blakeway said: "London is a fantastically vibrant student city. With a further 17,000 students expected to move to London over the next four years, we need to improve the provisions for decent, purpose-built student accommodation in the capital. Emily Bowes Court is a welcome new development that ticks all the boxes for a successful student life in London, giving students the opportunity to live in quality accommodation with excellent transport links to the city centre".
Richard Blakeway is seen in this photo with Richard Simpson, Managing Director - Development for UNITE, after pulling the cord to unveil the commemorative plaque.

NEWS
MOLE RACING - 2010 SEASON END
‘Going into the last three rounds of the British Sprint Championship, a finish in the top 12 and the ‘prize’ of retaining a number was looking dodgy. We had to get a reasonable score in all three run offs at Lydden, Colerne and Brighton.'

PROJECT LIMPOPO - Helen Jones
I joined K2 consultancy in November after graduating from The University of Nottingham with a Diploma in Architecture (Part 2). I am now undertaking a Masters in Project Management (Construction) part time whilst continuing my employment with K2. Subsequently, upon graduating I was invited to participate on a jointly run project with The University of Nottingham and Education Africa, to design and build a nursery school in South Africa. Education Africa is a charity improving access to education in South Africa. Fifty second year students are aiming to become the second team of Nottingham students to build a new school in the country. During my fifth year, I was involved in the first project, Project Jouberton (www.projectjouberton.com).
This academic year, I am part of a team tutoring the group of second year students each week, developing designs that could potentially be built during April/May 2011. In January each design will be presented to a panel of judges and a final design will be chosen. A small team of fifth year students will then come on board and detail up the design. The whole team will fly out to South Africa at the end of March to complete the build within 8 weeks.
The students have managed to raise over £100,000 so far to fund the entire project, with money still coming in. The school, once built, will help transform the education of 80 four to seven year olds living in Calais – an area of high unemployment in the province of Limpopo and a four to five hour drive from Johannesburg.
If anyone would like to know further information regarding the project or would like to offer any help or advice, please contact myself at h.jones@k2consultancy.com. Watch this space for more news on the development of Project Limpopo!

JOAO FIDALGO 10 MONTHS TRAVELLING THE WORLD . . .
In January 2010 I embarked on a life time’s adventure… I had asked K2 Consultancy for a year off so I could do what Ferdinand Magellan had achieved 500 years ago – circumnavigate the globe! A trip around the world…
Forget wooden boats, rough seas and uncertain destinations! This is the time of airplanes, internet, mobile phones, credit cards and dollars… The concept of bravery and adventure has changed…
I travelled in India, Nepal, Thailand, Burma, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, Argentina, Uruguay, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and USA.
I have seen the Taj Mahal and wild tigers in India, paraglide and climbed the Himalayas in Nepal, eaten the best food ever in Thailand, spoken politics with the brave people of Burma, swam with whale sharks and climbed active volcanoes in the Philippines, sailed for days in amazing Indonesian beaches, saw friends and went walkabout in Australia, Tango and ate steaks in Argentina, been in the desert and in the biggest salt lake in the world in Bolivia, climbed Machu Picchu in Peru and partied in Colombia!
It is good to be back at K2, seeing friends, colleagues and clients! My perspective of the world and of human relationships (including business) is now different. Best decision I could have taken. Thanks K2 for letting it happen!
