Peel Ports
K2 is providing project and cost management to Peel Ports at Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent regarding:
- Environmental Impact Study for the 2nd Medway Channel
- Refurbishment and Remedial Works at No. 2 Shed Warehouse. The works include a new roof (approx. 14.000 m2), new lighting system and fire alarm
- Remedial Works at the Cooling Tower Warehouse 6, including a new condenser unit, new insulation and general repairs
- Delivery of the replacement of the air conditioning equipment to Warehouse 6, a dockside chilled facility providing the largest air conditioned warehouse space in Europe.
- Initially offer strategic advice on the options to maintain access into Chatham docks via the caissons serving the North & South Locks. The locks and caissons were constructed in the 1880’s and have been well maintained ever since. The four caissons, that weigh approximately 40 tonnes each date back to the 1960’s. The skid and keel of the caissons have since deteriorated and a major refurbishment is now required in order to maintain the functioning of the docks.
- Offer strategic project advice on the provision of improved access at the mouth of the Medway. The actual and anticipated increase in ship movements, and notably Liquid Natural Gas to the Isle of Grain, has created concern that movements will be restricted into the Medway Channel. The professional team are currently considering a number of options to minimise the risk on ship movements as well as careful consideration on how any changes may impact on the local environment.
