Port of Sheerness
K2 are assisting Peel Ports at Sheerness by providing strategic development advice,programme management and cost consultancy upon a major programme of infrastructure development.
Port of Sheerness is a major port on the South-East coast of England and is ideally located as a base for Wind Turbine Manufacturers (WTM) who are looking to capitalise on the areas of Off Shore Wind Farms allocated by the Crown Estate.
K2 were appointed to assist in negotiations with the major manufacturers and develop the most economical infrastructure solution. In June 2011, Vestas expressed their intention to build a fully integrated offshore wind turbine manufacturing and installation facility at the Port of Sheerness.
K2 are providing project and cost management services which involve procuring the design and planning teams and working with Vestas to agree the most cost effective method of meeting their needs.
The work includes the strengthening of the quays, creation of new quays, demolition of some existing buildings, construction of new buildings for blade manufacture, component assembly and associated facilities, reconfiguration of existing Port operation, and upgrading of incoming services.
The change of use to provide a manufacturing facility and the works involved will require planning consent from Swale Borough Council. K2 are managing the technical team on behalf of Peel Ports and Vestas to submit a planning application at the end of the year including managing a public consultation programme for local residents and key stakeholders.
