Royal Surrey County Hospital
Royal Surrey County Hospital set out to extend the reach of the delivery of key Cancer Treatment services within their community, by delivering an outreach centre within the site of Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust. The new facility provides, through the installation of two linear accelerators, radiotherapy and chemotherapy services for patients in Redhill and the surrounding area.
K2 were engaged on the project to manage the design and delivery process of the new facility on behalf of Royal Surrey County Hospital, with close liaison with Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust. Key challenges for K2 to address included the coordination of infrastructure works that were being executed by SASH, e.g. below ground services diversions, changes to road layout and improvements to landscaping, along with specific stringent design criteria for the new facility relating to energy performance and standard compliance.
K2 were specifically appointed on this project due to their extensive knowledge of working within the site of Surrey and Sussex Hospital. The success of the scheme was dependent on the coordination of the infrastructure works with the delivery of the new build structure. Through careful design management with the SASH team, the infrastructure works incorporated elements of the ground preparation, and site remediation that brought both commercial benefit to both teams, as well as reduced the respective programmes for the infrastructure works as well as the delivery of the St Lukeís Radiotherapy Unit.
