Hale Village’s Final Piece of the Jigsaw
24th April 2020
Lock Keepers Site planning application submitted
A planning application has been made on behalf of Lea Valley Estates (LVE), for a key site in the £320m Hale Village development, the final piece of the jigsaw and the final component of a masterplan which has delivered over 1,200 new homes and a range of commercial and community facilities.
The Lock Keepers Site is close to Tottenham Hale rail and underground stations and will provide one of the most important buildings of the Hale Village development.
The plans include a new home and estate office for LVE to ensure they remain at the heart of the community they have developed. Also included in the development is a mix of residential units and a new community café, which will bring life to the waterside and is situated centrally between the two major schemes either side of the lock, to form a new destination and a point for meeting.
As the final piece of the jigsaw there is an emphasis on a strong architectural statement of quality.
The site has a rich heritage at this important crossing of road and river and historically as homes to the Lock Keepers. Controlling the locks and the management of the canal has served a vital role in the waterways and their industrial heritage here.
Lea Valley Estates have been a driving force behind regeneration of the area and their commitment to the area remains. A continued presence at the heart of the new community which they have helped build is important to their legacy, both personally and operationally. Their ambition is to be rehoused permanently on this site – at the heart of the wider area, as a presence for the community and to retain a vital role here for the future. Therefore this site is a new home for them, but also has a community focus for work and leisure, a presence on the towpath, and a modest opportunity for new homes.
