K2 acted as the airport specialist leading the Terminal Buildings team for the new build of the King Shaka International Airport. King Shaka International Airport officially opened its doors on 1st May 2010 and it is currently able to handle 7.5 million people a year, with the ability to exponentially increase its capacity for the future. The new airport includes 52 retail outlets, 75 check in counters, 3.7km of runway, 12 air bridges and parking for 6,500 vehicles. What’s more impressive, is that from the inaugural sod turning ceremony to the official opening took less than three years.
