Lei Shing Hong
K2 has managed the successful completion of Europe’s largest Mercedes-Benz car dealership, a new £50m flagship, in Stockport. International retail automotive group, Lei Shing Hong (LSH), the world’s largest Mercedes-Benz retailer, has made Stockport home to itís newest sales and distribution hub for the luxury brand – the three storey, 350,000 ft2 dealership will display over 150 new and used vehicles indoors, with a further 300 cars outdoors.
As well as the standard dealership, the site will host a new hospitality concept, incorporate a dedicated AMG suite and display the manufacturerís new electric range- EQ. The new building is of high architectural quality reflecting the importance of this gateway site.
Overcoming the site complexities proved challenging, involving remediation of contaminated soils, rehoming badger setts and mains services diversions. Despite these challenges, coupled with late design changes, the project was delivered to a challenging programme.
The facility is built on a 10.5-acre brownfield site, which was previously an industrial area and has been vacant for many years. K2 worked closely with the LSH acquisition team to carry out detailed feasibility discussions and the development of design options. This was then followed by the development of the planning application ahead of the site remediation and construction of over 5,000 m2 of showroom and associated buildings.
Lei Shing Hong operates more than 140 Mercedes-Benz dealerships in diversified markets such as China, Australia, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Cambodia and most recently in Germany and the UK. They currently operate nine dealerships in Birmingham and Manchester and have ambitious growth plans.
