Role:

Project Management,
Client Representative

Strategic Project establishment and Project Management delivery of a new terminal building. Responsibility for overall procurement and management of the project team, safety, budget and programme.

Pier 6 is a new satellite building servicing 11 aircraft stands and linked to the North Terminal by a 200m long passenger bridge which spans a live taxiway at a height of 22m, high enough to allow a Boeing 747 jumbo jet to pass beneath it.

The 2,700 tonne pier connector was constructed at an off-site prefabrication facility to ensure minimum disruption to airport operations. Meticulous planning and exceptional team working resulted in a highly successful bridge move in May 2004, requiring the taxiway to be closed for just five hours.

Over 3,000 people were involved in the project from inception to completion and over one million man hours were safely conducted on the project. A large amount of these hours were worked in close proximity to live airport operations.

K2 acted as client representative to provide strategic direction and leadership to the design and construction teams, provided overall governance and a single point of contact for the airport, airlines regulatory and statutory authorities plus many other stakeholders and interested parties.
