WHITEFIELD SCHOOLS, LONDON
Whitefield Development Trust
The existing teaching accommodation comprised sub-standard 1970’s defective timber frame and panel prefabricated classrooms for the School’s 307 pupils, who have a wide range of special educational needs. It was impractical for the whole redevelopment to be carried out in a single contract whilst maintaining the school’s normal operations as an accredited Centre of Excellence.
Phase 1 comprised a new energy efficient two storey teaching block with a roof level play area, with hospital-style hygiene areas for pupils with profound physical difficulties and built on the main playground.
Phase 1A comprised the demolition of some of the pre-fabricated classrooms and the formation of new play areas.
Phase 1B comprised four new autistic classrooms replacing further pre-fabricated classrooms.
Phase 2 comprised a new two storey teaching block to replace the remaining pre-fabricated classrooms.
